چکیده

The Nullarbor is one of the largest contiguous karst plains in world. Despite absence surface relict features and arid climate, subterranean flooded cave systems are among waters usually brackish their temperatures vary over a large range (18.6–23.7 °C) suggesting potential input warm groundwater to some caves. studied Weebubbie Cave total length ∼500 m penetrates ∼140 below ground ∼40 sea level. Temperature loggers were deployed water at various depths distances from entry lake detect inputs three different years. stable hydrogen, oxygen, carbon isotope compositions have been analysed hydrochemical differences inflowing investigate origin water. thermal irregularity Air Dome with 0.9 °C higher than all other sections, confirms heat transfer or an inflow warmer results suggest originates partially evaporated (up <20 %) modern infrequent precipitation events. relatively high salinity (23.3 mS cm−1) water, hydrochemistry composition that direct ocean contribution unlikely.

Bohra nullarbora sp. nov., a second tree-kangaroo (Marsupialia: Macropodidae) from the Pleistocene of the Nullarbor Plain, Western Australia

Bohra nullarbora sp. nov. is described from a partial skeleton collected from a diverse Pleistocene vertebrate assemblage preserved in Leaena’s Breath Cave, Nullarbor Plain, Western Australia. It is distinguished from its Nullarbor contemporary, B. illuminata, by having different cranial proportions, smaller cheek teeth and a relatively narrower upper premolar. It also differs in a number of po...

Thermal conductivity minimum: a new water anomaly.

We investigate the thermal conductivity of liquid water using computer simulations of the TIP5P model of water. Our simulations show that, in addition to the maximum at high temperatures at constant pressure that it exhibits in experiments, the thermal conductivity also displays a minimum at low temperatures. We find that the temperature of minimum thermal conductivity in supercooled liquid wat...

Long distance seawater intrusion through a karst conduit network in the Woodville Karst Plain, Florida

Five periods of increased electrical conductivity have been found in the karst conduits supplying one of the largest first magnitude springs in Florida with water. Numerous well-developed conduit networks are distributed in the Woodville Karst Plain (WKP), Florida and connected to the Gulf of Mexico. A composite analysis of precipitation and electrical conductivity data provides strong evidence...

Support for the thermal origin of the pioneer anomaly.

We investigate the possibility that the anomalous acceleration of the Pioneer 10 and 11 spacecraft is due to the recoil force associated with an anisotropic emission of thermal radiation off the vehicles. To this end, relying on the project and spacecraft design documentation, we constructed a comprehensive finite-element thermal model of the two spacecraft. Then, we numerically solve thermal c...

Microscopic origin of the surface tension anomaly of water.

We investigate the hydrogen bonding percolation threshold of water molecules at the surface of the liquid-vapor interface. We show that the percolation temperature agrees within statistical accuracy with the high-temperature inflection point of the water surface tension. We associate the origin of this surface tension anomaly of water with the sudden breakup of the hydrogen-bonding network in t...
